// UNMANNED SYSTEMS AND NEXT-GEN WARFARE TERM
DEW
DEW stands for Directed Energy Weapon, which is a weapon system that uses highly focused energy, like lasers, microwaves, or particle beams, to damage or destroy targets rather than using physical projectiles.

TECHNICAL DEFINITION
Directed Energy Weapons (DEW) are advanced military systems employing concentrated electromagnetic energy, such as high-energy lasers (HEL), high-power microwaves (HPM), or particle beams, to achieve non-kinetic effects against targets by causing physical damage or functional disruption.
BACKGROUND
Sky Dew, or High Availability Aerostat System (HAAS), is a high altitude missile defense aerostat used by Israel Defence Forces since 2022. The radar system was developed by Israel Missile Defense Organization (IMDO) and the US Missile Defense Agency (MDA). It is a tethered blimp, developed by the US TCOM company. The system is deployed in the north of Israel, a similar balloon is already used in the south. On May 15, 2024, the Aerostat was downed by a Hezbollah drone strike.
