Oyo operates a franchise-lite model where independent budget hotels rebrand under the Oyo name in exchange for listing priority, revenue management software, and quality audits. The technology platform is a thin layer of property management tools and dynamic pricing algorithms built on top of manual offline onboarding and frequent quality control failures. The moat is brand recognition in tier-2 Indian cities among price-sensitive domestic travelers who have not yet discovered that Google Maps hotel reviews are more reliable than an Oyo logo.
