Balderton Capital is a London-based European specialist whose portfolio is dominated by a single lottery ticket — Revolut at $75B represents 85% of their tracked portfolio value. The fund backed Revolut early (2015 Series A) and rode the European fintech wave, but their hit rate outside that one mega-winner reveals a different story: 78% of their remaining portfolio sits at BLOATED or worse valuations. The Revolut dependency is structural — strip out that single position and you're looking at a collection of late-cycle bets stuck at stretched multiples with no clear exit path.

Revolut is a genuine generational outcome — a $75B valuation from a 2015 entry makes Balderton's fund math work regardless of everything else. But the rest of the portfolio tells a darker story: Dream Games at $2.75B for a mobile gaming studio in a consolidating market, Vestiaire Collective struggling at $1.7B in resale fashion against better-capitalized competitors, Depop already marked TERMINAL HYPE at $1.6B. GoCardless and Writer show some structural defensibility, but the dominant pattern is BLOATED valuations with limited path to exit. The fund's European focus has produced one unicorn and a stable of companies that will need markdown rounds or disappointing exits.
