Digital Radio Frequency Memory

A Digital Radio Frequency Memory (DRFM) is an electronic device that can digitally capture a radio or radar signal, store it, and then play it back after modifying it. This is used in electronic warfare to trick enemy radar systems by creating false targets or distorting the real target's information.

TECHNICAL DEFINITION

Digital Radio Frequency Memory (DRFM) is an electronic warfare (EW) technology that coherently samples and digitizes an incoming radio frequency (RF) signal, stores it in high-speed memory, and retransmits it with intentional modifications, such as time delay or Doppler shifts, to perform deception jamming against adversary radar and communication systems.

BACKGROUND

Software-defined radio (SDR) is a radio communication system where components that conventionally have been implemented in analog hardware are instead implemented by means of software on a computer or embedded system.
