// THREAT DETECTION AND DATA PRIVACY TERM

SSL

SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is an older standard for establishing an encrypted link between a web server and a client (like a web browser), ensuring that all data passed between them remains private and secure. It was largely replaced by its more secure successor, TLS.

TECHNICAL DEFINITION

SSL, or Secure Sockets Layer, is a deprecated cryptographic protocol that provided encrypted communication and authentication between a client and a server over a computer network, particularly for HTTPS web traffic, before being succeeded by the more robust Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocol.

BACKGROUND

Computer security is a subdiscipline within the field of information security. It focuses on protecting computer software, systems, and networks from threats that can lead to unauthorized information disclosure, theft, or damage to hardware, software, or data, as well as to the disruption or misdirection of the services they provide.
