DEVELOPERS

Organizations developing technology related to Propulsion.

  • SpaceX

Designs, manufactures, and tests its own rocket engines in-house, most notably the Merlin engine for the Falcon 9 rocket and the Raptor methalox staged combustion engine for the Starship system.

  • Aerojet Rocketdyne

A major American manufacturer of rocket and missile propulsion systems. They produce the RS-25 engines for NASA's SLS, the RL10 upper-stage engine, and various in-space electric and chemical propulsion systems.

  • Blue Origin

Develops a family of liquid rocket engines, including the BE-3 (liquid hydrogen) for its New Shepard suborbital vehicle and the BE-4 (liquefied natural gas) used to power its own New Glenn rocket and ULA's Vulcan Centaur.

  • Rocket Lab

Manufactures the Rutherford engine, the first 3D-printed, electric pump-fed orbital-class rocket engine, for its Electron launch vehicle. They are also developing the larger Archimedes engine for the Neutron rocket.

  • Northrop Grumman

A leading producer of solid rocket motors through its acquisition of Orbital ATK. They manufacture the large boosters for NASA's Space Launch System (SLS) and various strategic and tactical missile systems.

  • ArianeGroup

A European joint venture that develops and produces propulsion systems for the Ariane family of launchers, including the Vulcain liquid hydrogen core stage engine and the Vinci upper stage engine.
