Chorus, Vox's proprietary CMS, was supposed to be the technical moat — a publishing platform built for modern editorial workflows with integrated analytics and social distribution. The problem is that WordPress is free and Substack pays writers directly, which makes Chorus a very expensive solution to a problem the market solved by disintermediating publishers entirely. The technology stopped being an asset when the distribution model it was optimized for became obsolete.
