The VoloCity is an 18-rotor electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft designed for urban air mobility — autonomous flight capability with human pilot fallback, 35-kilometer range, 110 km/h cruise speed. The distributed electric propulsion architecture eliminates single points of rotor failure and reduces noise to 65 decibels, which Volocopter claims makes it acceptable for dense urban environments that currently ban helicopter operations.

Volocopter has test flights in Dubai, Singapore, and Paris, European Union Aviation Safety Agency design certification progress, and a manufacturing facility in Bruchsal capable of producing 500 aircraft annually — and still cannot name a city where commercial operations will launch or a year when revenue will begin. Joby raised $2 billion, achieved FAA Part 135 air carrier certification in 2022, and has firm commercial contracts with Delta Air Lines and the US Department of Defense.
