Kavak built vehicle inspection software, inventory management systems, and a financing platform that underwrites subprime auto loans in markets where credit bureaus barely exist. The tech stack is adequate but not differentiated — the real product was cheap capital willing to finance depreciating assets in high-inflation economies.

Revenue hit $2 billion in 2022 but profitability remains structurally impossible when you are simultaneously the dealer, the lender, and the reconditioning facility. Carvana proved the model does not work in the United States at scale — Kavak is discovering it works even less well in markets with 40% inflation and 8% prime rates.
