Intercom's core product is a customer engagement platform combining live chat, chatbots, help center, and ticketing — built on standard web messaging protocols with AI response generation layered on top since 2023. The differentiation used to be clean UI and tight integration with product analytics. Now it is an AI agent called Fin that answers customer questions using your documentation as context — functionally identical to what Zendesk AI, Ada, Ultimate.ai, and a dozen others shipped within six months of ChatGPT's release.
