// OVERVIEW

Exabeam spent a decade convincing enterprises that cybersecurity needed behavioral analytics and user entity behavior analytics (UEBA) — then watched Microsoft bundle the same capability into Azure Sentinel for free. The company raised $400 million to build a standalone SIEM platform in a market where standalone anything is becoming structurally obsolete.

Exabeam's platform ingests security logs, applies machine learning to detect anomalous user behavior, and automates incident response workflows. The UEBA engine builds behavioral baselines for every user and flags deviations — insider threats, compromised credentials, lateral movement. It is competent technical execution of a category that cloud platform vendors have decided to give away as a loss leader.

The company achieved $200 million ARR by 2022 selling to enterprises that had already committed to best-of-breed SIEM architectures — companies that bought Splunk, QRadar, or ArcSight and needed behavioral analytics layered on top. That market is shrinking. Microsoft's Security Copilot, Sentinel, and Defender suite now include UEBA as table stakes. Palo Alto Networks acquired Demisto and built SOAR directly into Cortex. Splunk — acquired by Cisco for $28 billion — bundles behavioral analytics into Enterprise Security. Exabeam's 2021 Series F at $2.4 billion valued the company at 12x ARR on the assumption that enterprises would continue paying for standalone security tools. Three years later, 73% of Fortune 500 CISOs report platform consolidation as a top-three procurement priority.

// WHY WOWLS HUNTS THIS

Security platform vendors have $180 billion in combined market cap to subsidize bundling the exact behavioral analytics Exabeam charges $200 million annually to provide. Standalone dies when free-with-platform becomes good enough.

VERDICT: ARMED — Exabeam raised $400 million to build a standalone SIEM category that Microsoft, Palo Alto, and Cisco have decided to bundle for free, and the $2.4 billion valuation assumes enterprises will keep paying separately for capabilities their existing vendors now include
